Gold Plating

Alexandria Plating Industries, Inc. is very conscious of the price volatility of gold pricing and will work with you to limit the amount of gold used in any gold plating process. Alexandria Plating Industries, Inc. understands your need to be selective with gold plating and will adapt its selective spot and selective stripe gold plating processes so that gold is restricted to the minimum functional area.

Alexandria Plating Industries, Inc. knows industrial gold plating

Alexandria Plating Industries, Inc. works extensively with manufacturers ina variety of industries to gold plate electrical contacts and other highly specialized parts. This experience means Alexandria Plating Industries, Inc. engineers know how to look at a project and provide the most efficient, cost effective gold plating process available.

More about the gold electroplating process

Gold is the ultimate precious metal for electrical contact plating. For that reason, the electrodeposition of gold is used extensively in electrical component applications such as electrical contacts, connector pins, switches, sensors and many others for which repeated physical contact occurs.

  • Gold will not form surface oxides
  • Gold conducts low voltage currents for long periods of time without corrosion or failure.
  • Gold provides good wear resistance, especially when combined with cobalt or nickel.

Alexandria Plating Industries, Inc. offers:

  • Hard gold plating – gold alloyed with trace amounts of cobalt or nickel for durability in connectors
  • Soft gold plating – for applications that require purity
  • Wire bondable gold – ultra-pure 24-karat gold plating

Alexandria Plating Industries, Inc. Gold Plating Specifications:

  • Mil-G-45204 Type I,II,III Gr.A,B and C
  • ASTM B488-95
  • AMS 2422
  • AMS 2425
  • IPC 4552

Processes for gold plating:

  • Selective stripe plating
    • Selective stripe plating reduces the amount of precious metal used in the selective plating process
    • Selective stripe plating is a proven, low-risk selective plating process
    • Selective stripe plating provides plating deposits only in required areas with tight tolerance control
  • Selective spot plating
    • More and more customers have switched to selective spot plating because of its ability to reduce precious metal consumption, and in turn reduce their overall precious metal costs.
  • Additive masking plating
    • Additive masking offers ultra selective plating of tin, tin/lead, and possibly other metals
    • Additive masking provides high-speed plating of continuous coil-stock
